Developing a Customer-Facing Organization

In the vision portion of the change process, you established a transformational strategy designed to gain competitive advantage. In the customer-facing organization—one that focuses on the customer—you are looking for a structure that supports the transformation. This is a radical change from the internally focused functional organizations that dominate today's corporations. (See Figure 4-1.)

You are looking for a significantly different set of characteristics in the customer-facing organization and a transition to full organizational engagement with the customer. The benefits can and should be measured in periodic analysis, which should be discussed in the monthly market-savvy S&OP meetings.
